Learn how to style a white skirt a ton of different ways to come up with new outfits that are both comfortable, but stylish so you can get more out of your closet.
One of my most-worn pieces in my closet is a white midi skirt. It’s comfortable, versatile and has a comfy elastic waist. I mostly wear it in spring and summer, but will also wear it into fall with a sweater or cardigan for a fun transitional outfit that’s cute and comfortable.
You can wear a short or long white skirt, but I always default to a midi or tea-length skirt. I love that they are feminine, comfortable and easy to wear!
If you don’t have a white skirt in your closet yet, here are a few that I absolutely love! As you can tell I prefer ones with tiers and even some pin tucks that make them look more high-end and interesting.
White Midi Skirts
My skirt is actually hand-sewn. I used a heavier cotton poplin and the Zamora Skirt pattern that can be found here. If you are a sewist, even a beginner, this is a really easy pattern, it’s basically a few big rectangles and an elastic waist!
How to Style a White Skirt 9 Ways
White Skirt & Smocked Top

Smocked Shirt | Necklace | Sandals
I love the balance of the full white skirt with a more fitted smocked top. It has some simple texture and is nice and stretchy, so it’s plenty comfortable! Choose a contrasting color or a shirt with a small pattern on it. I added a fun statement shell necklace in a contrasting color that felt unexpected, but pulled the entire look together.
All White Outfit

White Tank | Blue Necklace | Brown & Blue Rondelle Bead Necklace | Straw Bag | Sandals
White on white is about as classic as it gets! In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with it—ever! It’s simple, it’s chic, it’s effortless and so perfect for hot summer days. This high-neck tank is a great piece to wear on it’s own and also for a layering piece. I love that I can wear a normal bra under this too.
Button Up Shirt & Linen Skirt

Irish Linen Shirt | Brown & Blue Rondelle Bead Necklace | Straw Bag | Sandals
This look feels very East Coast to me. It’s crisp, it’s preppy, while also being effortless. White and blue is always such a classic combination. This shirt I’m wearing here is linen, but if you want a more crisp, tailored look, opt for a structured cotton shirt instead. It’ll still be breathable and lightweight, but won’t get as wrinkled and lived-in looking as a linen.

Butter Yellow Top with White Skirt

Butter Yellow Top | Brown & Blue Rondelle Bead Necklace | Sandals
Butter yellow has been trending on and off for the past few years and it’s such a fun, whimsical and soft color for spring and summer. This top is under $30 and has been one of my most worn this summer (I also have it in white!)
Butter Yellow Tops
Brown & White Outfit

Brown Top | Straw Bag | Shoes, similar
I love the contrast of the brown and white. This mockneck sweater tank is great for those transitional days too when there’s just a touch of chill to the air! A simple brown tank or t-shirt would look great with this combination as well. For cooler days, I’d wear this with ballet flats and a brown sweater too!
Denim Shirt & White Skirt Outfit

Denim Top | Green Necklace | Woven Flats | Straw Bag
I’m still surprised at just how often I wear this denim shell tank. It’s comfortable, a little bit heavier than a typical cotton or linen shirt and I love the structure of it. It brings an elevated look, while still being casual and comfortable.

Red Shirt & White Skirt Outfit

Linen Top | Necklace | Sandals
This outfit also features a breezy linen shirt in this pretty muted red color. If you’re someone who is wanting to add more color to your wardrobe, but you don’t really know where to start or it kind of scares you, start with more muted tones. I love this top with jeans as well, but think it’s so fun with the skirt. It gives off a bit of a boho feel and I absolutely love it!
Sweater Tank & White Skirt Outfit

Rainbow Necklace | Cashmere Tank | Sandals | Straw Bag
I bought this sweater tank at the very beginning of spring and have worn it countless times. One of my favorite ways to style it is with a tiered white midi skirt. It’s such a fun pop of color and I love the difference in textures from the crisp cotton to the soft knit cashmere of the top. Add a fun necklace like this rainbow beaded one to complete the look!
T-Shirt & White Midi Skirt Outfit

T-Shirt | Green Necklace | Woven Flats
When in doubt, add your favorite tee and walk out the door! Since the skirt is simple and solid, don’t feel like you can only wear a solid tee. Try a striped tee in your favorite colors to spice it up. Then pair it with sandals, ballet flats or low-profile sneakers for a fun, unexpected look!
