January 7, 2016 Dressed Up How to Wear a Mini Skirt When You’re Over 25 Sometime after 25, something about wearing a mini skirt didn’t feel quite right. I wore them confidently through college and probably even pushed the line of too-short. I blame Hollister for that — you know what I’m talking about. I still like a good mini skirt, but now that I’m 28, I don’t opt for the super short and tight versions like I did in my younger years. So what makes a truly stylish mini skirt? In my opinion, it’s a few things. It needs to be short, but not too short. If you sit down and your bootie touches the chair, you might reconsider the length. Instead of a tight skirt, I opt for a well-tailored skirt made in a sturdy fabric. I also love flowy party skirts like this one, but I have to be careful of those because Chicago is windy, even though that’s not where the nickname comes from. This a-line skirt is perfect. The button details are so fun, the shape gives it a young 70’s vibe and it’s super comfortable. Pairing it with over the knee boots covers more skin and makes it seem far less scandalous than it would with a pair of strappy heels. Here I paired this skirt with one of my favorite basic long sleeve shirts from Free People. Their thermal tees are super comfortable and have really long arms which I fully appreciate. The cozy knitted detail on these make it even better! I’ve worn this shirt before (here) with a basic pair of skinny jeans, but I love how it looks here a little more dressed up! What’s your take on mini skirts after the age of 25? Do you wear them?
