This year has easily been my most active… ever?
Well, at least since my high school volleyball days. I’ve always worked out pretty consistently, but in the past it was usually just twice a week. Annnnnd, if I’m being real honest, sometimes it was just once a week. But, when I’m moving, active and keeping myself strong, I feel so much better than when I don’t.
I’ve been seeing my trainer for about a year now, but I wanted to step it up a notch and start incorporating more workouts into my week. I’m not the best at getting to the gym and lifting weight on my own, and I thought it would be good to switch it up anyway.
One area I’ve ALWAYS wanted to improve?! My booty, or my “Pure Barre Ledge” as they call it in class! It’s been a running joke in my family that I’ve always had a flat behind and for whatever reason, getting that sucker to NOT be flat has been a challenge!
I started going to Pure Barre back in January and was planning on going 2-3 times a week. Sadly, Owen brought home not one, but two sicknesses that I caught in both January and February, so I did get a bit de-railed in between there. But, I’ve been going as often as I can despite that and let me tell you—it works!
Like I said, I’ve been seeing my trainer for a year and felt like I was in pretty good shape, but after that first class, I started doubting that, haha! Just kidding, Steve—don’t make my workout too much harder!
Anyway, those classes are so hard, but in the best way possible.
Reasons to Try Pure Barre
Tones in All the Right Places
Okay, obviously you guys now know my main reason for signing up—the butt. But, it’s not just a great legs and booty workout, it’s so amazing at toning your arms and abs as well. Basically all over! And it’s small movements and pulses that make you give your muscles a long, lean shape.
Quick & Effective
Time is a big one for me. I don’t have time to go to a 1.5 hour gym class, and Pure Barre classes are 45-60 minutes, the one I go to is 50. They start fast and you work hard the whole way through, but then you’re done. I’m usually not a morning person, but I’ve been going to the class at 8:45 after I drop off Owen and it’s so nice to come home by 10am and be done with my workout!
I’ve found that the women that attend Pure Barre are often similar to me, I met a friend who also has kids at the same school as Owen—how awesome is that?! It can be so hard to make mom friends, so I love this aspect!
It’s sorta funny sometimes when you go to a group class for the social aspect then end up talking to no one, right? Related: how to get your post-baby body back. Here, everyone I’ve talked to has been so sweet and fun to chat with and I really love that! It’s a great way to make some new friends that are interested in the same things as you!
I LOVE all the teachers at the Lakeview location (where I go!)—they always remember who you are and are so great at helping you make adjustments through class and keep you motivated throughout! They’re also all in amazing shape which is pretty dang motivating! P.S. I haven’t actually taken any of the other classes than their original class, BUT so many of you have told me how much you love Empower (which is more cardio) and Reform which adds resistance training and I’ve heard is tough, but such a good workout! The only reason I haven’t tried them is because of my schedule—it just works better for me to go to that 8:45am class, but I do need to make time to try them both.
Makes you Healthier
Okay, so you could probably say this about any workout, but the whole vibe there helps to make me want to choose healthier things throughout the day. A green smoothie, salad, extra veggies with dinner. Waking up and getting my body moving makes it so much easier to continue making more healthy decisions throughout the day and week.
Lastly, can we quickly chat about this workout set?! Outdoor Voices has long been one of my favorite activewear brands and I picked up this set when we were at a kids music class they hosted in their Lincoln Park location. I couldn’t resist the fun Easter egg color and love the shape of this bra. For the bra and leggings, I’m wearing an XS here, but could have easily fit into the S (these are tight, but not too tight!). I also got this cute tank, but didn’t end up snapping a pic in it, whoops!
