One of our very favorite places we’ve ever visited is Sonoma—have you been? If you haven’t, add it to your bucket list right now. As soon as you get there, everything just seems to slow down. The sun shines, the temperature is perfect and everyone is just so friendly. I mean, how could they not be? They live in wine country!
The town square is so cute and picturesque, the food is amazing and so fresh and the wine. Clearly, the best part of being in wine country!
We’re working on planning our next trip out there, but in the meantime, I like bringing that same feeling and tastes to our own table.
With a baby in the mix, most of our date nights end up being at home and that’s just fine with me. I’mr really a home body at my core. Instead of ordering takeout, we love cooking a simple, yet elegant dinner at home. Rob turns on some music, usually jazz, because I love the vibe it sets for the evening and we’ll pour ourselves a glass of wine and prep dinner together. We’ve been loving Frei Brothers wines lately. While we’re cooking, we love sipping on the Sauvignon Blanc. It’s light-bodied, crisp and so perfect for summer!
In the summer months, I love to cook simply prepared meals with fresh ingredients that are in-season and local if we can find them! That simple preparation reminds me of our very first trip to Sonoma. We’d spent the afternoon wine tasting and came home with a bunch of ingredients and cooked dinner on the patio. We grilled pork chops with rosemary and fresh vegetables with olive oil and salt and pepper. While we cooked, we sat on the patio snacking on some cheese, prosciutto and bread and overlooked the valley. It was one of my favorite moments of the trips—equal parts peaceful and fun!
Of course, nothing beats going to wine country and experiencing the real deal, but I think we’ve created a pretty good Sonoma-inspired wine tasting date night at home! We made a small plate of prosciutto, parmesan and basil to enjoy with our Frei Brothers Sauvignon Blanc. For dinner, we made grilled chicken with rosemary and fresh vegetables. I also made a salad with arugula, tomatoes and basil. We opened a bottle of the Frei Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon, one of my all-time favorite varietals, for dinner. I love a crisp wine to start and love a bold red with dinner. Plus, having a couple bottles of wine open makes me feel more like we’re in wine country and at a wine tasting!
Our nights usually rollover into us sitting on the patio or curling up on the couch and watching a good movie. Pretty perfect in my opinion!
Have you been to Sonoma? What’s your favorite thing about wine country?
