I can’t believe that Christmas is in SIX days! Are you ready? I’m still wrapping up some last minute gifts and things, but we’re mostly set to head to Texas this weekend.
It’s suppose to be in the 60s the whole time we’re there, which doesn’t totally feel like winter, but that’s what I grew up with, so it still feels like Christmas to me! Plus, seeing all my parents Christmas decorations that I grew up with brings back so many warm and fuzzy memories.
The holidays are so dang magical as a kid, and I’m so excited for Owen to start experiencing all of it too!
One of my favorite family traditions is actually our Christmas Eve tradition. We typically go to the afternoon or evening church service—we’ll see what happens this year with Owen in tow, ha! And, when we get home, we change out of our church clothes, into comfortable stuff (like the sweatshirt I’m wearing here), light the fire (YES, even if it’s 65 degrees!) and settle in.
For dinner that night, we always have tamales and this Mexico City Style Soup for dinner. I never eat tamales, but love them, so I think that’s what makes it extra special. Kind of like the Thanksgiving meal! We all sit around the big dining table, chat, laugh, drink wine and relax. I think that’s what I really love about this time of year! I finally feel like all my work is done for the year, and I can take a real break and just be present with my family.
I’m finishing up packing for our trip this afternoon, and I’ve already laid out this outfit. I adore this sweatshirt from Everlane! It’s actually my second ReNew sweatshirt (made from recycled plastic bottles!) and for good reason—they’re so cozy! This one is the oversized one, and the blue is so pretty—I’m wearing a medium. I have a small in the Raglan version which also fits, but I wanted a more oversized lounge-y feel to this blue one.
I also love these straight leg crop pants. I have the wide leg ones as well, but personally for my body type, I like the straight leg a bit more. And, if you think you can’t wear white in winter—FALSE! They look so cute in winter and add a nice pop of brightness to your outfit. These run TTS (same with the wide leg), so I’d stick with your regular size, definitely don’t go up as I find they stretch a bit.

These Day Boots are new to me, but I’ve heard so many good things about them from my friends, so I was excited to try them. I snagged them in the Ecru color in a size 9 (typically I wear an 8.5-9) and they fit perfectly. The leather is super soft and the heel isn’t too high, so you can easily walk around in these all day long. If you plan to wear socks with them, definitely err on the side of bigger, maybe a half size up from what you typically wear.
If you still need a last minute gift, this scarf, hat or my sweatshirt would all be so perfect!
Ahh, okay, time for me to get to packing! Tell me in the comments, what is your favorite holiday tradition?!
