Something I’ve come to love about owning a home is that there’s always something you can be working on. I get that not everyone loves home projects, but honestly, it’s just so much fun for me.
It’s been such a creative outlet, and trying new things is a blast. At the end of the day, very few things are permanent (though, yes, some things are definitely more expensive than others). As we continue to make progress on our living rom and other area of the house, I find my list of things I want to do growing too—oops! Decorating, renovating and DIY-ing can be a little bit addictive.
Soooo, instead of waiting until the living room is “done” because what does that even mean, I wanted to show you an update and peek into what it looks like now! Plus, some ideas I have for the future!
Living Room Update & Sources
Living Room Before
To start, here’s what it looked like when we moved in:
And, here’s what it looks like now! This room has quickly become my favorite room in the house—maybe because its transformation is the biggest? I still have some work I want to do in here, but I love it nonetheless!

Still on the List:
Paint the French Doors:
This will probably happen this month! I tested the color, and every time I walk by it annoys me that I have random paint marks on there, ha! The color I’m using is Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron in a semi-gloss.
Paint/Hang Art on Walls:
I used to think we had tons of art, but now that we have more walls to fill, I feel like we have none, ha! This will be a process, but I love art, and can’t wait to find some cool pieces for our home.
Coffee Table:
I actually ordered this black coffee table (now sold out, but available in oak) from the Amber Lewis collection with Anthropologie! It has arrived, but I had already snapped these pics! She’s my all-time favorite designer and to have a piece designed by her is so exciting!
Something Above the Mantel:
I’m struggling with what to put here because there’s a beam that hangs down. Do I do a mirror? Large piece of art? Two smaller pieces of art?! HELP!
Paneling:
This will likely happen next year, but as you guys know we have some weird texture on our walls. I’d love to do something like picture frame molding or board and batten in here. What do you think?!
Lighting:
This part of the house is the old part and there are no overhead lights. It’s not terrible, but I would love some can lights and maybe a chandelier or sorts at some point, but that won’t be happening for a while because that seems like a pricey project.
I still can’t believe how far this room has come in just 2 months, can’t wait to see how it looks in another year!
BTW, how to make your cheap throw pillows look expensive, and cozy fall decor.
