I won’t even try to lie. After spending nine magical days sleeping late, eating delicious food, exploring beautiful cities and drinking wine and forgetting about ‘real world’ responsibilities, made Tuesday a tough one. We landed in Chicago on Monday afternoon and by Tuesday morning, we were falling, reluctantly, back into our normal routine. And, surprise, surprise, it wasn’t that easy! The one perk of jet lag is that we went to bed at 8pm and didn’t wake up until 6am, so at least I started my week with ten hours of sleep! I got up earlier and took Oliver for a morning walk before anyone else which was so peaceful. But getting back into work mode has been…blah.
Before it all feels far away, I wanted to share one day (many more to come) from our trip with you guys! If you followed along on Instagram, I meant to Insta-Story, but in all honesty, I forgot and frankly, I’m okay with that! It’s always good to have a little break from technology, you already know that we hit three cities on our latest trip—Lisbon, Porto and Paris. These pictures are from one of our days in Porto, Portugal. Oh, and be warned, there are a lot of pictures—it was just too pretty!
We’d actually slept in pretty late that day. I always feel a small twinge of guilt when I sleep in on vacation. I don’t want to feel like I’m wasting my time there, but at the same time, it’s vacation right?! Ignoring my alarm clock is a luxury we don’t always get at home—even on the weekends because Oliver sometimes has an agenda all his own. So, we slept late and made our way to a coffee shop for a pastry and cappuccino before really beginning our day.
After breakfast, we climbed to the top of a tower and got a great view of the city. We climbed so many different tours and churches on this trip, ha! The view from the top were pretty amazing, and you could walk 360 degrees around the top to see every bit of Porto. After the climb, we visited the Livraria Lello where J.K. Rowling apparently pulled inspiration from for the design of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter books and then wandered about town, popping into churches or cool spots we found along the way.
That was one of the warmer days on our trip, so thankfully I could ditch my super heavy coat in lieu of a leather jacket and adorable peplum tee. I love that the peplum detail on this tee because it makes it so much more interesting than a simple crewneck or v-neck—I dropped in a few more unique tees below and they’re all under $35, except for one of them! As for Rob, he pretty much lived in this quilted coat, jeans and sneakers the entire trip—doesn’t he look cute?!
We stopped for lunch at the cutest little spot for sandwiches before walking to the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal that afternoon. If you’re in Porto, this would be a perfect spot for a picnic! There were peacocks and roosters roaming wild and some of the best views of the city and the river! It was a little bit of a walk from the center of town, but was totally worth it.
We finished our day with amazing wine (that was crazy cheap) and a charcuterie plate at this cute little wine bar! Stay tuned for more details, restaurants and travel tips from our trip in the next few weeks!
BTW, one day in Sonoma, and a Sunday lunch date.
