Holiday Tea at The Drake
Thanks to Ann Taylor for partnering with me on this post!
A few months ago, I got an email from a friend with the subject line: “Holiday Tea”. Something I’ve always wanted to do in Chicago is to have afternoon tea at The Drake. It feels like such a fun, fancy and girly thing to do, but somehow in the past five years, I never made it happen. So when I got that email I was beyond excited! We picked a date and booked a time, and for the past month, I’d been patiently waiting for the day to come.
This past Sunday, it finally did! And along with it, snow. Lots and lots of snow. I managed to snap a few pictures, but within seconds, the snow had piled up on my head so we threw in the towel and waited for a prettier day to snap the rest of the look. It was the first snow of the season and it really put me in the holiday spirit!
Even though it was pretty cold, I knew I was only going to be outside for a few seconds as I climbed out of the car and walked inside the hotel, so I went ahead and dressed up for the occasion. I wore this gorgeous red sweater pencil skirt and a simple creamy white cashmere v-neck sweater from Ann Taylor. Gah, I love cashmere!
Then I added some festive details with these gorgeous velvet leopard pumps and this sweet velvet clutch with a big bow on it. Clearly I have a thing for velvet this year and these two pieces were too good to not come home with. The pumps are actually really comfortable and the clutch just screams holidays, don’t you think?
I absolutely love this classic and simple holiday look and have a feeling that I’ll be wearing it to another one of the holiday parties we have in the next two weeks.
When I walked into The Drake, I knew exactly why this had been something I’d always wanted to do. A giant and beautifully decorated Christmas tree sat in the middle of the lobby and I felt like I’d been transported to a different time. The tea room was also stunning. There were so many little girls there dressed up in their fanciest holiday dresses and patent shoes with their moms and grandmas—seriously the cutest thing ever.
We sat down at our table and immediately fell into conversation, while tea, champagne, and snacks arrived in front of our eyes. It’d been so long since I’d seen this group of friends and we had so much fun catching up and stepping outside of our busy lives for a few hours. We finally decided it was time to go when they started breaking down the other tables, ha!
If you ever get a chance to do tea at The Drake or any other hotel, I highly recommend it. It’s so much fun and such a nice relaxing way to spend an afternoon with your girlfriends.
Do you have your holiday outfits lined up yet? What holiday parties or get-togethers do you have on your calendar?
