2 Super Cute Ways to Style a Simple Cable Knit Sweater

Thanks to Ann Taylor for partnering on this post!

You know what’s funny? I only owned two sweaters when I first moved to Chicago. I knew I’d need some warmer clothes, but I hadn’t realized just how under prepared my wardrobe was. Any of my shopping money that first winter went straight to bulking up my winter wardrobe, and the majority of that was spent on cozy, warm sweaters.

Over the years I’ve learned which sweaters I like the most, which ones get the most wear, and which ones are the warmest. At the top of that list, is cable knit sweaters. It must be the tighter knit on the cable design that makes them warmer! But, the real reason they’re my favorite style is because I love the design! It gives a subtle pattern to a seemingly simple sweater and can totally make an outfit look complete.

The obvious way to wear a cable knit sweater is with jeans, but I switched things up during our trip to New York this past weekend and wore the same sweater two different ways. Both looks are perfect for the holidays—stylish and cozy.

This past week I’ve hosted two events with Ann Taylor for their Friends of Ann Event which ends tonight! Take advantage of getting 40% off all of their new amazing holiday pieces before it ends! The first event was in Chicago last Thursday, and the second one was in New York this past weekend! My mom agreed to join me and make a weekend of it! It was a quick trip, but so much fun! Whenever I go on quick trips, I try to pack light and wearing this sweater two different ways made it possible! Here’s how I wore it:

1. Paired with Velvet Pants

On our first morning in New York, we woke up a little late at our adorable hotel, The High Line Hotel, and popped over to brunch at Chelsea Market before heading uptown for the event. I paired this cozy cable knit turtleneck sweater with these velvet ankle pants (that I also wore to the Chicago event) in the morning because it was little chilly. I love that they can be dressed up or down and the velvet is so festive for the holidays!

2. Dressed Up with a Party Skirt

For the Ann Taylor event that afternoon, I kept the cable knit sweater on and paired it with this adorable party-ready pleated skirt, a little silk scarf for a pop of color, and these scalloped heels that I’ve been wearing like crazy since I got them. The chunky heel makes them really comfortable.

Both events were a blast! I loved getting to meet and chat some of you, so thank you so much for stopping by! My mom and I left the Ann Taylor event with a few new goodies. I grabbed this gorgeous plaid blanket scarf and she picked up this beautiful grey wrap coat—both for 40% off! Seriously everything is so cute right now, so I rounded up a few more of my favorite new arrivals below.

Before we left town on Sunday, my mom and I met up with my friend Christine for brunch at Jack’s Wife Freda. I’d seen too many delicious looking pictures on Instagram and was so glad we got to try it—totally worth the hype!

Overall, we had such a great time, but the weekend went by way too fast. Next time we’ll plan for an extra day of exploring, shopping and wandering the city!

Have you prepped your wardrobe for the holidays? What type of sweater is your favorite?
