How to Wear Wide Leg Pants

One of my favorite things to wear lately is wide leg trousers. These and wide-leg jeans have essentially replaced all of my skinny jeans and tight pants and I’m not mad about it.

Yes, it’s an extra step and another cost, but having them fit makes them look so much better than ill-fitting clothes.

This is easily one of my favorite ways to wear wide leg trousers in the spring and summer. A simple pair of slides or strappy flat sandals is my go-to. If you prefer wearing a heel, go for it, just make sure to have your pants tailored to whatever you’ll be wearing them with.

This look actually scared me a bit at first as I was worried it would look too frumpy, but the oversized look is very much in right now and it has this chic, effortlessly cool vibe about it that totally works. It feels very West Coast casual summer to me! Try only buttoning a few in the middle so the fabric drapes open a bit and creates some interest.

If this feels a bit too much for you, try tucking in just one side—this is typically how I prefer styling a shirt like this because it still gives you a little waist definition.

Even though wide leg trousers can feel dressier, they can easily be paired with a simple white t-shirt, or a tank top for an easy weekend look. Whether you’re grabbing coffee or brunch with friends or simply taking your kids to the park, this is comfortable and chic all in one.

This is such a classic, simple outfit—wide leg trousers with a crewneck t-shirt. I just got this t-shirt and I am in love, it is so soft and the rolled sleeves and pocket detail are so cute. Pair it with a belt to add a little more interest, layer some necklaces and pair with your favorite pair of sneakers or sandals. If you need an extra layer, add a trench coat.

Wide Leg Pants with a Crop Top

This is one of my go-to summer “going out” looks. It’s comfortable, shows just a little skin at the midriff and looks chic. Try different colors of tops and dress it up or down by swapping your footwear. I like to toss a denim jacket over my shoulders in case it gets cool. You can wear heels or a flat shoe with this depending on what you love.

This outfit is great for work or everyday wear. To make it more formal for a work setting, choose black or navy pants, and for a more casual look, pair with a linen trouser or a trouser in a lighter color. Instead of your standard button down shirt, swap it for something fun like this embroidered one!

Wide-Leg Pants and a Cardigan

I’ve become cardigan obsessed lately and often wear them on their own as a shirt. To create some definition at your waist, tuck the front part of the cardigan into your pants so that it drapes nicely and elongates your legs. Leave the top button undone for a more casual and lived in look.
