One of my favorite things about vacation is coming home with a fresh perspective on life. For me, taking a trip is a good reminder to slow down, take time for yourself and to appreciate what you have. It’s so easy to get caught up in the whirl wind of work and social life when you’re at home, and vacationing seems to remind me which things are most important.

Working from home on my own schedule can be both a blessing and a curse. I have the freedom to travel when I want and work when I want, but no one there to fully cover me when I’m gone. I also have a hard time saying no to projects when I’m swamped and eventually get myself so far under and stressed. This trip made me realize that I need to slow down a bit and even cut back a bit on my work. I’m lucky to do something I love, but killing myself to take on every project will eventually lead to burnout, and I really don’t want that.

Now that I’m back, I’ve made a better work-flow calendar for myself so that I don’t take on too many projects at once. I’m also planning on reinstating my no email or work after 7 and on the weekends. Work will stop by 6:30 too. I’ve found that this is the best way for me to start balancing my work & life. I’m hoping to take more time to share meals with Rob and my girlfriends, go to yoga on a more regular basis (went three times last week!), spend time in prayer, eat healthier, and get a facial once a month. The last one is a total treat-yo-self move, but why not?

Vacationing puts things in perspective for me and helps to re-prioritize my life. Coming back feeling rejuvenated and reawakened is an awesome feeling, so now to keep the good juju flowing. So tell me, what does travel do for you?
