On our second day in Playa del Carmen, I wore my favorite of all my beach looks. I’d been dying to try out the high-waisted bikini trend and finally got my chance! I have small hips, and I found the bottoms to be super flattering and accentuated my figure. To complete the look, I paired my swimsuit with this big floppy hat, these sunglasses and this cover-up.
I realized that most people don’t put much thought into their beach attire — I’ve been guilty of that before! And, to be honest, the beach doesn’t require much. At the bare minimum, all you need is a swimsuit, but adding a few simple stylish essentials can take your basic beach look from standard to totally chic!
Who would have guessed that adding a few simple pieces to accompany your swimsuit and turn it into polished resort look?!
The best part is that you don’t need much, and all of the components that make up a super chic beach look can be used for any beach day!
The key component to any beach trip is a swimsuit. For our second beach day I wore this adorable bikini from LOFT. I’m obsessed with this print and also love the styling of the bralette top. The high-waisted bottoms provided good coverage and a stylish twist on the typical bikini bottoms. These colors are also perfect for the Fourth of July which is pretty far away, but still good to know!
A coverup is essential for beach days! It allows you to easily transition from the beach to lunch by the pool while looking appropriate at the table and super stylish. I love this long one and left it open while wandering the grounds. It also makes for a really cute dress on it’s own when you belt it in the middle.
In my late twenties, I’ve become a lot more concerned with skincare and wearing a hat at the beach is the simplest way to protect your face and neck from the sun. It also makes reading your book a lot easier on the eyes. This floppy hat is flexible and doesn’t get ruined by getting bent up in travel.
Another necessity for protecting your eyes. LOFT has a great selection of cute and affordable sunglasses so you can snag a different pair for every swimsuit if you want! I love the shape of these and the light blush hue of them!
This pom-pom sarong can also double as a scarf. I used it a lot during our late afternoon beach walks when the air was just the slightest bit cooler. You can also cross over the front and make it into a makeshift dress!
6. BEACH BAG
Having a bag that’s sturdy and durable is key for the beach. I always bring a lot of stuff with me — extra sunscreen, books, my journal and camera — and having a place to store it all is so nice. Once you leave the beach, most bags can double as totes for weekend trips to the Farmer’s Market too!
This last one isn’t a must, but jewelry can elevate the look of your beach outfit instantly. I always think that a simple long necklace or a stack of bangles looks so chic at the beach. Just make sure to remove them if you dive into the ocean!
What are your go to beach essentials? Do you have any beach trips coming up soon?
