Happy Monday! I can’t believe today is May 1st! May is always a special month for me because it’s my birthday month and this year I turn 30. When did that happen? I always thought I’d feel older by now, but I don’t and I’m not complaining! This weekend was a fun one, even though it was rainy and chilly. The yoga event on Saturday morning was so fun and thank you to everyone who came out! Watching Rob do yoga was pretty hilarious, but I’m so thankful he came anyway.
It looks like we’re going to get sunshine again this week and I’m so happy! It’s about time to pack up my winter stuff for good and officially switch out my closet with spring and summer goodies! When I think about my spring dress code, the first word that pops into my head is casual. I love getting dressed up, but I feel most comfortable and confident when I’m dressed in something that’s comfortable and easy. During the summer, that means dresses, and for spring, it’s been jeans and a top. Some classic combos just can’t be beat!
The best part, these “jeans and a top” outfits require very few pieces-jeans and a top, duh, and shoes, and a few accessories. Who doesn’t love an easy to put together look? Let’s break down the elements!
Chances are you already have a favorite pair of jeans. They fit right and hug you all the right places. For me, that’s skinny jeans. Fun fact, I used to think skinny jeans were soooo weird-why wouldn’t you want a flare leg?
Thankfully jeans match with everything, including more denim. I love a good Canadian tuxedo! I love simple tops, but lately I’ve been finding myself drawn to pieces with embroidery and unique details, like this top that also comes in yellow. I love sleeveless tops, but have included lots options below in case you don’t like showing your arms off.
I have a major weakness for shoes—please tell me I’m not alone! After holding off on these wedges last year, I finally gave in this year and I’m happy I did. They’re surprisingly easy to walk in, add lots of height and are really comfortable! One area I’m lacking in are flats, which is weird because we walk so much in the summer months and I definitely don’t wear heels then. Keep in mind the style of your jeans when picking shoes. Flared jeans and flats will make your legs look shorter than they are, so opt for heels with that style!
If you’ve been following for a while, you’ve probably noticed I’m not a big accessories gal. Simple earrings, basic bags and simple gold jewelry are my go-to accessories. But, right now I’m loving bright, bold statement pieces and love the color and personality they can add to any outfit!
I wore this outfit for our second day of the RewardStyle conference when we were in Dallas a few weeks ago and loved it. It was perfectly comfortable and casual for a long and exhausting day!
What’s your spring dress code? And what type of jeans are your favorite?!
