3 Ways to Modestly Splurge on Yourself
On my trip to Mexico earlier this year I read The Happiness Project and one of things she did was spend on a modest splurge for herself. I thought it was actually a pretty cool idea. I know that for me, it’s hard to justify spending money on myself for something special for no reason in particular, but when I do, I get a sense of joy and excitement!
I think it’s important for everyone to do something nice for themselves every once and a while. I mean, give yourself some credit! You work hard, why not? Of course, I’m not suggesting you go out and buy yourself a designer handbag every month, but a modest splurge that leaves you feeling great and also not broke.
My favorite way to splurge on myself is spa treatments. I’ve never done a full on spa day, though it sounds nice, but a massage, facial or pedicure always lets me step away from work, technology and have a moment of quiet relaxation. I always leave feeling totally rejuvenated! Here are a few of my favorite spots in Chicago to modestly splurge on yourself…
1. Get a Massage at George the Salon: This salon is mostly known for doing hair, but they also offer a fabulous massage. The room was quiet, dark, peaceful and Maggie, did an excellent job of working out the knots in my back, likely due to working on the computer too much.
I also loved the products they used. The essentials oils smelled amazing and really helped with relaxation.
2. Get a Facial at the Wit: I’m a sucker for a good facial. I have oily skin and have always struggled with breakouts. Getting facials on a regular basis has become part of my skin care routine. If you’ve never had one, I highly recommend it! I loved the products that the Spa at the Wit used. They smelled amazing and were totally natural. The aesthetician was so calm and made me feel at ease during the whole facial. She even gave me some tips to use at home!
3. Get a Manicure & Pedicure at Cowshed: I actually haven’t been to Cowshed yet, but I’ve heard amazing things. Soho does everything so beautifully, I have no doubt it’d be a great experience!
