2 Ideas for the Formal Living Room
We move in to our new house in less than a week! I’ve been browsing online shops, mocking up room designs and just getting really excited to get into our house and start playing around.
I didn’t order anything before because I just wanted to be in the space for a bit first to see what I really want to do, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been thinking about it a lot. One of the first big rooms we’ll need to tackle is our front living room that our more formal “adult” space.
I mocked up two different ideas for decor and honestly don’t know which direction I like more! Something with a little more color and more moody, or something brighter and lighter?
I mixed some high and low pieces in here, and honestly have no idea if this is what our final room will look like, but wanted to share nonetheless because I’m getting so excited to finally start to get to work on these spaces!
2 Ideas for the Formal Living Room Design
Living Room 1—Moodier
La Messina Rug | Vintage-Inspired Coffee Table | Harley Lounge Chairs (cheaper look-a-like) | Black Side Tables | Caitlin Sofa in Aegean Structured Cloth | Faux Olive Tree | Belgian Flax Linen Curtains | Landscape Art Print
In general, I lean more towards brighter, lighter interiors, so while I said this is moody, it’s not that moody. But, the dark couch and darker rug (which may be great for foot traffic in this front room) definitely gives it a cool touch! This was the first mock-up I did and was totally set on it, but then I started browsing some lighter, more neutral interiors and started to wonder if I really liked that more… why is it so hard to make a decision?!
Living Room 2—Light & Airy
Evet Rug | Biddew Noir Sublime Framed Textile | Reclaimed Round Coffee Table | Caitlin Sofa in Ivory Heavy Cloth | Black Side Tables | Harley Lounge Chairs (cheaper look-a-like) | Faux Olive Tree | Belgian Flax Linen Curtains
I whipped this design up shortly after seeing a gorgeous all neutral room that gave me all the cozy, calm vibes. I love how bright this is, but always wonder—will I want more color? I guess I could add some color with pillows, but then again, it’s just so dang serene in here, maybe it doesn’t need it after all.
What look do you lean more towards—moodier and more colorful, or brighter and more neutral?!
