How to Add Personality to your Work Wardrobe
For the most part, my weeks are spent doing a whole lot for this blog. Photo shoots, photo editing, writing, linking and brainstorming content! But, contrary to what you might think, this blog is not my full-time gig.
When I’m not blogging, I’m spending my time working on content for Jess & I’s newly launched website, Blogging For Keeps, or working on design projects for my freelance clients. For me, the easiest way to separate my blog from my other work is to set aside specific work days for certain projects. I find it nearly impossible to switch gears from one project to another, so dedicating an entire day to one project allows me to fully immerse myself and be more productive.
Since I don’t have an office in the traditional sense for either of my other two “jobs” outside of blogging, I make my way to different coffee shops around town and dress like I’m going to work.
Last week, I wore this outfit from ModCloth on my work day at one of my favorite neighborhood spots, Dollop. Guys, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten more compliments on an outfit in such a short amount of time! The barista went on an on about the shirt and the boots, and another girl stopped to tell me how much she loved the skirt! It’s those kinds of things that make you feel good and for me, feeling good always makes me more productive!
This outfit would have been perfect for my first job out of college—it’s comfortable, cute and conservative enough for the office! Because I was the designer, I could always get away with being a little bit more creative and playful with my outfits, but I was always expected to look pulled together and professional, and this fits that criteria.
I love ModCloth for work clothes because it’s affordable, and has more character and personality than your traditional work wear! There are so many pieces that are appropriate for work, and can also transition smoothly into your social life! Take this dress for example—pair it with heels for work and booties for the weekend!
This skirt will be paired with a navy sweater and boots once the weather cools down, and this top and tote bag will be perfect with a pair of jeans and flats for a casual weekend look. I love when pieces can do double duty!
What do you like to wear to work? Have you checked out ModCloth for work clothes?
