Is it just me, or does anyone else start getting a little beat down and, dare I say it, depressed, this time of year? Maybe it’s because winter was long gone by this time when I was living in Texas and even though I’ve been in Chicago for four years (just realized I had my 4 year ‘anniversary’ on Feb. 2!), there’s really no way to completely avoid the winter blues. Especially when you have days on end of grey skies — it’s the pits.
It can be even worse when you work by yourself at home. I’ve found that making plans to have work days with bloggers, going to Soho for the day or meeting a friend or Rob for lunch helps break up my day and gives me something extra to look forward to. Sometimes I feel kinda sad saying that, but whatever gets you through winter, right?
Last week I took some time to get out of the office and met up with Shaheen at the Langham for a quick shoot. I was so thankful that we were able to shoot inside the beautiful lobby of the Langham so we didn’t freeze our booties off! This plaid coat and these boots are pretty warm, but let’s face it, 10 degrees doesn’t feel good even when you have on 3 layers!
After our shoot, we had lunch at Travelle with the Kelly, who does PR for the Langham Hotel and restaurant. It was so good to finally meet here and spend some time out of the house, just chatting with the girls. But back to Travelle real quick. It’s delicious! We tried a number of different things, but my two favorites were definitely the burrata (you really can’t go wrong with that) and the spicy chicken wrap — so good! They also had a tasty looking lunch special and so many good appetizers — the black bean fries were also delicious (think chickpea fritter, but with black beans)! After lunch, I went home feeling refreshed and ready to take on my afternoon. It’s amazing what a quick break can do for you!
