One of our favorite parts about moving to a neighborhood is exploring all the new-to-us restaurants, coffee shops and stores. There are so many good restaurants in Chicago, so narrowing it down by neighborhood is a bit easier. Rob actually lived in Lakeview before we got married, but the area has evolved so much since then and there are so many new places that we’ve loved checking out. We still have quite a few on our list, but here are some of our favorite spots that we frequent quite often!

Frasca: This yummy Italian spot is right by the Paulina Brown line stop and has the cutest patio which makes it perfect for summer dining! The pizzas and pastas are really yummy, but their brunch might be my favorite!

Cafe Orchid: This spot is a total hole in the wall, but serves really yummy Turkish food! It’s really close to us, so when we order takeout, this is our go-to spot. The tabbuleh, hummus and chicken kebabs or falafel is our standard order!

Cafe El Tapatio: Since moving from Texas, the thing I miss most other than friends and family is probably Tex-Mex. El Tapatio is the closest thing I’ve had to Tex-Mex in Chicago and it’s so good! The enchiladas verdes are one of my favorite things to order.

Tango Sur: I’ve mentioned Tango Sur so many times and for good reason. It’s one of our favorite date spots in all of the city. The food is incredible, it’s BYOB, affordable and super romantic in a really lively way. We always split a few empanadas and the El Filet, which actually comes with two filets—it’s huge!

Coda di Volpe: We just tried this spot this weekend and it did not disappoint! It’d been on our list for a long time and we finally remembered to go! Their pizza and panzanella was incredible and the pasta looked really yummy too.

Left Coast: We’re obsessed with this spot for a healthy weekend lunch, smoothie or juice. It’s not far from us and we ride our bikes here on a regular basis for a late lunch on Saturdays. It’s always so fresh and yummy and is one of the few healthy spots in Chicago.

Jeni’s Ice Cream: If you haven’t been to Jeni’s Ice Cream before, do yourself a favor and go! They have unique flavors and the yummiest handmade waffle cones. I’m usually not a big ice cream fan because I don’t eat a lot of dairy, but I can’t resist it every once and a while. They also have a few sorbets, so if you’re not into dairy, there’s always some unique flavors for you too!

Crosby’s Kitchen: This spot actually was open when Rob lived here and we loved it! Their salads are great and it’s also a fun spot to grab a glass of wine (when you’re not pregnant) and sit on the patio and people watch. Southport is a busy street and Crosby’s is smack in the middle of it all!

Cafe Tola: This little stand up spot is great for a coffee or empanada to go. I’ve come to learn that in Lakeview, empanadas are the new donuts. While I love empanadas, I really wish a Stan’s or something similar would open, ha! But I do love an iced coffee from here!

The one thing I really feel that is missing are coffee shops! When I want to get out for the day and work from somewhere else, I don’t really know where to go. If there’s some cute spots that I’ve missed, please let me know! What other Lakeview restaurants do we need to try? Any favorites you have? I’m all ears!
