August 16, 2016 Dressed UpThe Right Way to Wear a Sheer Shirt Pin179 Share11 Tweet Reddit StumbleShares 190 A few weeks ago on our walk to dinner, we passed a girl wearing a sheer white top with the most beautiful white bra underneath and I thought, “damn, she looks chic.” A look, that if done wrong, can look inappropriate, was pulled off perfectly by this girl. It looked so effortlessly feminine and sexy, and I knew I had to try it. Now, maybe you’re not into showing off your underthings, but this fall trend might just change your mind. I read a story a few months ago that really changed my perception of bras. The moral? They should compliment your outfit instead of being an afterthought, and nude-colored bras were a no-no (even though I still wear that thing nearly everyday). So, what is the right way to wear a sheer shirt? After doing a little Pinterest research and testing of my own, here’s how to successfully pull off this look. 1. The Right Bra If your shirt is sheer, your bra shouldn’t be boring! Of course, you probably want to avoid a bra that’s completely see-through, but lacy and detailed bras are perfect for sheer shirts! Make sure it’s a bit oversized or loose and stay away from anything too tight! Black looks less sheer, so if you’re not quite sure about this look yet, that’s the best place to start. I found more sheer tops on Nordstrom that are different ranges of sheerness! Nordstrom offers free shipping and returns, which makes finding the right top easy! Here, I paired my sheer shirt with a other classic wardrobe staples from Nordstrom: this grey moto jacket, a pair of ripped jeans, black sandals and this dusty rose bag for a pop of color! 4. Appropriate Bottoms I recommend pairing your top with jeans or pants. Shorts or skirts that are too short may err on the scandalous side, and in my late twenties, I try to avoid that. I’d wear this out for dinner with Rob or for a girls’ night! But Monday morning meetings? Probably not. So, tell me! What do you think of the sheer shirt trend? Would you wear this look? BTW, date night at the Art Institute, and do you take fashion risks? *This post was sponsored by Nordstrom, as always, all opinions are my own!
