A Skincare Routine For Those Who Hate Mornings

Mornings are tough, especially when you’re not naturally a morning person. Waking up earlier than 7:30am is a struggle for me, so if there’s anything I can do to make my mornings easier, more peaceful and enjoyable, you bet I’m trying it.

Since I work from home, I typically don’t wear a lot of makeup or spend time doing my hair, but that doesn’t mean I’m sitting around in my pajamas all day. I firmly believe that getting dressed and ready, will set you up for a more positive and productive day. Even if getting dressed and ready means a casual sundress, a messy bun and a swipe of mascara, blush and lipstick!

As I get older, I’m learning to embrace my natural self and let my hair air dry and wear less makeup. Maybe it sounds like I’m getting lazy, but I actually feel more like myself than I have in years, so maybe being lazy is kind of okay?! The one thing I’m not lazy about though, is my skincare routine. Makeup is great, but if you’re starting with a healthy and clean canvas, you won’t need as much!

Easy Morning Skincare Routine

1. Cleanse

In the morning I use this daily exfoliant from Tata Harper. It’s a gentle exfoliant that helps wake up my skin and get rid of any excess oil that built up overnight.

2. Toner

After I pat my face dry, I spray this Charcoal Balancing mist over my face. I have oily skin and charcoal products do a great job of soaking up excess oil. This mist is super fine and light and I absolutely love it! If you don’t have oily skin, try this Plumping Mist.

3. Moisturize

I sometimes switch up my morning moisturizer, but always opt for something light-weight. For the month of August, I tried to stick to one moisturizer, but ended up switching back and forth between Countermatch and this Pro-Collagen Day Cream from Elemis. Occasionally, I’ll add a few drops of this Lapis balancing facial oil to my moisturizer for extra hydration.

4. Eye Cream

The skin around your eyes is 4x thinner than the rest of your face, so always, always use an eye cream—even if you don’t have any wrinkles yet! I shared two of my secret weapons for younger-looking eyes recently too, this is definitely one of the most important parts of my anti-aging routine! You’ll thank me later! I love this Rejuvenating Eye Cream from Beautycounter. It has caffeine in it which helps my eyes look more awake in the morning and helps with under-eye puffiness.

5. SPF

The last, but honestly most important step! If I’m being honest, I ignored this step for a long time and I wholly regret it. I have sun damage all over my face from years of skipping sunscreen. If it’s a typical work day, I use this dew skin tinted moisturizer with SPF 20 as well as this mineral powder with SPF 30 in it. No, that does not mean you have SPF 50 on, sadly it doesn’t work that way, but I do feel that I’m well-covered for a typical day!

If I know I’m going to be out in the sun all day, I’ll wear a this broad-spectrum sunscreen all over my face, neck and chest. I also try to wear a hat on days where I know I’ll be in the sun a lot. Don’t forget to wear SPF every single day. Even on those cloudy winter days, UV rays can still cause damage to your skin, even if you’re not getting burned.

Mornings aren’t my favorite, but this makes it easier and more enjoyable! What does your morning skincare routine look like? Any products you swear by?
